DS Password Tools are “a pair of command line tools for changing passwords on Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server that make use of the Directory Services API. Unlike the included passwd program, these tools are compatible with Jaguar Password Server.”

ICeCoffEE 1.3.2 was released Thursday night. I'm now trying to figure out what on earth to do after weeks of essentially being able to do no work, and am meeting with my advisor on Monday.

Vonage has replaced their voicemail system. The previous system was horribly unreliable, and didn't let non-Windows users listen to voice mail messages online, so the replacement was obviously needed. Unfortunately, the email messages informing you that “you have voicemail” are no longer remotely informative, and worse yet, SpamAssassin now thinks they're spam.

So, we've gone from:

Subject: [Rileys] You have a new voice mail message from 1631725xxxx

to:

Subject: *****SPAM***** [Rileys] Voicemail Message Waiting

Uh, good going, folks. I notice Vonage is advertising on VersionTracker with something about “the !@%#$ phone company”. Don't turn into another !@%#$ phone company then, OK?

For the people who were experiencing ViewCVS errors on svn.sabi.net: sorry, fixed. If it isn't working, there's an email address on the error page: use it to email me! Somehow the Fink-built Python was interfering with my custom-built Python, even though I clearly specify /usr/local/bin/python in the CGI script. I didn't need Fink's Python anyway, so I removed it and everything is back to normal. Go figure.

ICeCoffEE 1.3.2 should be available soon, with a minor new feature, several bug fixes and Japanese localization. I'd have Pester 1.1 released by now if it weren't for my extended illness; it's been feature complete for some time, but I keep finding more bugs than I have time to fix.

Ads which take their cues from the page content (such as Google's AdWords) can always be amusing when you're searching or browsing for something and the ads match the letter but not the spirit of what you're looking for. Here's a prime example:

I wonder if herbalremedies.com will wonder why there's such a correlation between Mac OS X users and potential buyers of their N,N-dimethyl glycine.

After an email from someone who was trying to convert outlines back and forth to OmniOutliner, I've updated my shortest and perhaps least popular piece of public software, LispMe Importer, to 1.0.1. It's just a quick AppleScript which will take text files and import them as memos in Palm Desktop.

Steve Gehrman, author of the great Mac OS X Finder replacement Path Finder, has a weblog. Steve has from the beginning been incredibly receptive to my comments, honest and generous. Path Finder is no small feat for a single developer, and it's obvious he pours his heart and soul into the application.

After my stability problems with Radio earlier this week, it's stopped crashing! Go figure. I like problems which solve themselves. :-)

Illness update: I thought I'd be better by yesterday, but I spent all last night, 7 hours or more, in bed and coughing continuously, despite medicine ostensibly indicated to stop it. Somehow I finally got to sleep, but I'm now incredibly hoarse and my sleep schedule is almost completely inverted—I woke up at 5 PM. My brain still seems a bit fried but I am able to concentrate enough to begin catching up with everything I've missed.
