Just downloaded the firmware update for my MP3 player. The only feature I wanted (128 MB SmartMedia support) is there, but they've messed up the interface in so many small ways. The index shows filenames instead of song titles now; song numbers aren't shown unless you wait a second for it to read the MP3 format, etc. And it scrambled my radio presets. Oh well, off to buy a memory card.

(Funny, the picture on this page is of an Apple QuickTake 150, which I used briefly while my Coolpix 950 was being repaired. It only has 1 MB internal RAM, and certainly doesn't take CompactFlash cards!)

Amazing, I got that spam twice. It really does seem to originate from China, there aren't even any forged headers, the sending IPs were 61.154.132.137 and 61.154.133.139, and from there it was relayed through Colombia and Venezuela.

This is definitely the most targeted spam I've ever received.

Dear Sir,

Imagine if the whole world worked this way: everyone got everything. We'd be sifting through garbage for our entire lives. (Although I feel somewhat like that with the huge stack of papers on my desk.)

I was checking the weather today and heard that the NOAA is switching their speech synthesis program. Samples of the old and new voices are here. Even the old one sounds better than what I listen to every morning… perhaps it's not in place all over the country?

Got an email today that ICeCoffEE had been entered in Apple's Macintosh Products Guide. Neat.

Also, last week MWJ had some really nice things to say about my software, unfortunately I can't link to them because you have to pay for a subscription. (Which I highly recommend, BTW. It's the only computer-related periodical I subscribe to any more, and I learn many things in MWJ that I don't anywhere else.)
