Jon Rentsch's weblog has been up and running for a few weeks—if you're into WebObjects or Mac development, you'll want to check it out. He wrote (in WebObjects) the weblog software he uses, and has released a lot of code to the community, including a neat Objective-C to C++ exception bridge which he mentioned a few weeks ago.

I've moved the last of my personal web materials off the university's network, so I can finally say goodbye to the ugly dynamic.sabi.net:8080 URLs. Say hi to hamton.sabi.net, an old PC running Debian and Apache 2. Certain web.sabi.net URLs will redirect to www2.sabi.net, which is hamton. The process went reasonably smoothly, not counting the first hard drive which died immediately after I finished copying everything to it, or the four hours I wasted figuring out Apache's bizarre virtual host syntax or lack of error messages when I included ScriptAlias but had not enabled mod_cgi. Still need to check that my RSS feeds are properly being upstreamed by WebDAV, and set up backups, but it's a great improvement.

ICeCoffEE 1.3.1 released: changes resolve conflicts with speech recognition, Xounds, and non-foreground applications. The application popup menu is now sorted by name. If you're using 1.3, please upgrade.

iList is an elegant AppleScript Studio-built application for browsing Apple's mailing list archives—far faster to use than a Web browser for the purpose. I mistook it for an Objective-C application until I checked the app package out: it's that fast and responsive.

Seven of the the #uiuc.test crowd went to Mandarin Wok tonight for dinner, then to Bakers Square for pie. Seven dishes for eight people meant we didn't come close to finishing the excellent Chinese food, then I wasn't able to resist a slice of European Truffle. Chocolate, and, um, more chocolate.

On the bright side I've lost five pounds so far this year, though I fear I just gained it all back. :-) My fortune read “Your fastidious nature has much more fun this year!”—it's just as confused about my intentions as I am.

If you're having trouble getting speech recognition to work after installing ICeCoffEE 1.3, add SpeechFeedbackWindow to the ICeCoffEE exclusion list. The application is in /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/ A/Frameworks/SpeechRecognition.framework/Versions/A/Resources/.

I'll put out 1.3.1 later this week after I fix the problem (no idea what it is, as yet), but for the meantime, this is a workaround.
